Introduction
This is a very interesting weather app which provides a slightly more specialized look at the behavior of the wind and tides, with some basic weather forecasting information in addition. This windfinder app for iPhone provides a refreshingly different look at the weather conditions for your local area.
The best iPhone apps for weather
With general weather forecasting, radar map imagery, and much more, I think this is a very solid a[[ for chiecking local weather conditions, which is definitely a breath of fresh air in the greater context of the Weather category of the App Store as a whole.
Find the best wind conditions with this app and check out why I think it could be one of the best apps for weather enthusiasts out there.
Fresh New Interface
When you first start using Windfinder, you’ll be presented with the Favorites section, within which you’ll notice that a few locations have already been added to give you a feel for the layout of the app.
Best iphone and ipad apps
To add your current location or any other places to your Favorites list, you’ll need to tap the menu icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen and then visit the Search section.
From here, you can search by country or location name, choose your location from a map, or use your device’s integrated GPS in order to determine where you are right now. Once you’ve done this you’ll be ready to start windfinding!
Very Nicely Presented
I actually really like the way the information is presented when you tap on a location, not just because it looks pretty but also because the developer has done a great job of using an interface design that I am unfamiliar with. Having reviewed dozens of weather apps that all look the same, this makes a nice change!
You’ll see plenty of information in these forecasts as well, including current and maximum wind speeds, wind direction, air pressure, precipitation, and some very detailed information on the waves and tides for your area.
If you swipe right, you’ll be able to view the Current observations section which plots the wind speed and direction on a chart for those of you who prefer a more visual approach. I’m also pleased to see that you can swipe right again to view a radar map of your specified location.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Detailed analysis of wind, waves, tides, and more
- Radar map imagery
- Save multiple locations
- View wind information on a visual graph
Cons
- There is nothing negative to say about this app
Final Words
As I often mention in my reviews of weather apps, the same layouts and visual designs are used time and time again, and I’ve personally found the genre to be a fairly tired and repetitive one.
With that said, Windfinder definitely provides a fresh new way of looking at the weather, and although you won’t necessarily get all of the same information that you would from a fully fledged weather app, I’d still definitely recommend checking it out.
