Pocket Mariner has integrated Glympse location sharing platform into its Boat Beacon marine navigation app for iOS. Along with companies such as BMW, Ford, Garmin and Mercedez-Benz, Pocket Mariner is incorporating Glympse’s real-time, temporary location sharing platform into its app. Glympse location technology is applicable to a wide variety of industries and applications, including voice, mapping & navigation, health & fitness, messaging, field sales tools, event planning, travel, delivery, logistics, and social & business networks.
The Glympse Lite SDK handles critical app functions like GPS/location management, contact integration and viewer permissions, and includes all necessary UI to enable users to quickly share their location right from within third party apps such as Boat Beacon.
Boat Beacon, which was developed by sailor and Pocket Mariner CEO Steve Bennett, enables sailors to use their iPhones to keep a watch on nearby boats along busy coastlines while enabling other boaters and friends to follow their boat’s location using Boat Beacon Maps and Global Marine AIS systems. The Boat Beacon app does not require an external AIS receiver or transponder equipment and provides location tracking at a fraction of the cost of an AIS system.
