Shazam today
announced that its free
Shazam Encore, its premium app currently for sale at $5.99, does not include ads and allows allows users to see lyrics as music plays via LyricPlay. This change brings its free iPhone and iPad apps in line with the Android app which has provided unlimited free tagging since Shazam's
announcement on April 28, 2011.
Shazam for iPad is the only iOS app by the London based company so far that has integrated the ability to identify TV shows and commercials so users can "watch exclusive content, get coupons and other goodies". Shazam is looking to generate additional revenue by linking advertisers with Shazam's 150 million global users.
Shazam currently identifies 1 billion songs leading to the purchase of $100 million of music per year.
