Camera+ app review

I am an avid iPhone photographer.  It’s always been a hobby of mine, and now that I can carry such a sophisticated piece of technology with a camera integrated in my pocket, I’ve been known to stop and shoot at almost any time.  Of course, I think we can all agree, even with the latest iOS updates, the native camera app is still quite lacking.  And there is a wealth of applications on the App Store for editing, sharing, and taking photos.  Bing the enthusiast that I am, I have not yet found one that I won’t try, but I have also not found one that comes close to compare with Camera+ by taptaptap.  Simply put, this will be the best .99 cents that anyone, whether you like to snap quick pics for sharing with your friends or you have an interest in photography. 

First, let’s talk shooting.  Camera+ has drastically improved the response of the camera.  When you are ready, your camera will be also.  There’s a handy grid across the screen to assist with composition, as well as a quick, one-tap menu that gives you access to an image stabilizer, timer, and for shooting bursts of photos.  Tapping and holding on the screen allows you to adjust the exposure and focus of your shot, so you can get just the look you desire. 

After you shoot, your photos are saved to the in-app Lightbox.  From here, you can edit your image with a huge variety of actions.  Camera+ allows you to adjust the image orientation, rotating or flipping the image as you wish.  Crop is extremely handy, with a wide variety of options available.  I’ve used it numerous times and have not noticed a degradation in image quality.  For me, the filter options are where the bargain truly comes in.  Tapping either Scenes or FX Effects, gives the photographer 43 excellent, quality filters to choose from to enhance the selected image, with another nine available through in-app purchase for an additional .99 cents. (It’s such a deal I purchased these as well, but haven’t really used them as much as the stock filters.)

When you are satisfied with your image, Camera+ carries a number of ways to share your work.  Email, iMessage, and web links are standard offerings as well as access to social networks.  Camera+ links to your Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr accounts easily if that is your thing.

And, just for cool points, let’s not forget the “scandal” when taptaptap added a secret functionality that led the way for using the volume button to snap photos, since then added to the regular iOS offerings.

Overall, if you consume large quantities of camera apps, this one rises to the top of the pile.  If you are going to buy only one camera app, Camera+ should be the one.
