Find My iPhone App Review
Find My iPhone
Rank: #47 on the Top 100 Free iPhone Apps List as of July 18th
For: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad
Designed to track your iPhone if lost or stolen, there are some serious benefits and one pitfall when it comes to installing this app.
On the downside, it appears that if the factory settings are restored immediately after it’s stolen and the serial number erased, then the chances of tracking it and having it returned to the rightful owner appear slim.
This has been the case with a number of iPad users who were unable to actually match what they tracked to confirming it to be their original device.
That said, lots of users have found it invaluable, especially when it’s been mislaid as opposed to stolen.
You do need another iOS to set up “Find My iPhone” and it has to be enabled in the iCloud to track it.
The most important features include the ability to remotely lock your device and the ability to play a loud two-minute sound with a message displaying the phone is lost or stolen, even if it’s set to silent.
You can also remotely wipe your device to erase any important personal data, plus, most importantly, track it on a smartphone, tablet, PC, or Mac on the iCloud map.
Find My iPhone supports over 30 languages, and if the tracking has not been disabled, you should have no trouble tracking it to the unsavory character or potential pawnshop merchant.
Your message, if you desire, will state that your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch is lost and will supply a contact number for the kind Samaritan on which to contact you.
It’s most definitely worth installing this app on your iOS device because losing a $400 piece of tech is never pleasant.
Latest version include retina enhancements and bug fixes.
