Virtual Trainer Suspension app review: a smarter approach to suspension training 2021

Reviews

Introduction

If you’re looking to start exercising and getting into shape in a safer and non-impactful way then you’ll definitely want to check out this iPhone and iPad fitness app which provides a smarter approach to suspension training.

The best fitness apps for the iPhone

This is a fairly run-of-the-mill trainer app to the Health & Fitness category of the App Store, providing a ‘TRX-flavored’ collection of workouts and exercises for those of you who enjoy exercising in this manner.

Generally speaking, I think that TRX only really has application in terms of rehabilitative or auxiliary exercises; however, it can also serve as a gentle introduction for someone who is new to exercise, so I’d definitely recommend trying out this unique gym app, non jogging app, to see what you think.

Become a TRX T-Rex!

Virtual Trainer Suspension has been designed to provide a fairly cookie cutter approach to suspension training, delivering more than 40 different exercises which come complete with high-quality video demonstrations  so that you know exactly what to do.

All of your exercises are split into various categories based on which body parts you want to work on a given day, and you can also combine exercises to create your own workout if you’re feeling creative.

Perfect for Complete Beginners

If you’d rather take a more linear approach then you’ll be pleased to know that there are six default sessions to choose from.

As you’ll see in the Pros & Cons section below, I’m a little disappointed that this app doesn’t offer more in the way of progressive elements that increase in difficulty and intensity over time. Without this, I think it’s going to be hard for anyone but a rank beginner to make any kind of significant progress.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Choose from 46 different suspension training exercises
  • All exercises are demonstrated in high-quality videos so you know exactly what to do
  • Exercises are split into categories based on which body parts they work
  • Combine exercises to create your own workout or choose from six default sessions
  • Follow step-by-step workout instructions with timers and more
  • Timers are customizable and designed to support HIIT, Tabata, and more
  • Receive rewards and incentives to improve your scores and make further progress

Cons

  • This app has been fairly well-received, although one user has made a very good point about some of its limitations: “The app does have audio notifications that you have completed a set or are about to begin a new set, but the notifications are too quiet and they don't always sound off. Also, the app is very limited because it only offers six different preloaded workouts. While you are allowed to make your own workout, the whole point of this thing is that it acts as a personal trainer and tells you what to do. I would really like to see this app add a progression/series of workouts that get harder over the course of a few months.”

Final Words

Virtual Trainer Suspension for iPhone and iPad seems great for beginners but more experienced trainees might want to look elsewhere for a more advanced approach.
