My-Cast Weather Radar app review: comprehensive weather forecasting

Introduction

My-Cast Weather Radar is a simple yet incredibly comprehensive weather forecasting app for iPhone and iPad that contains radar maps, tropical storm outlooks, National Weather Service alerts, and of course, standard weather reports across a range of timeframes.

Based on my own personal experience with this app so far, I have nothing but positive things to say about it; however, there does appear to be some potential compatibility issues with older versions of iOS.

I don’t imagine this is going to be an issue for most people nowadays but the customer support looks to be somewhat lacking as well; I would recommend looking at the Pros & Cons section below for more on this.

What we have here is a very useful little app that provides comprehensive real-time weather forecasting across a range of timeframes, ranging from today’s current conditions all the way up to a full week of predictions.

There are some very high-quality weather radar maps to be found in this app, with overlays displaying temperature, dew point, and wind speed and direction, and you’ll also find a StormWatch map with National Weather Service alerts.

My-Cast Weather Radar enables you to save multiple locations within its interface, as well as creating lists of your Favorite and Recently Viewed locations within the U.S. to make for quick and easy future reference.

In addition to all of this, you’ll also benefit from a Tropical Outlook map, NHC bulletins, and even Bing Base mapping system with imagery and terrain mapping. Suffice to say, this app really delivers the goods on a number of fronts.

Cons

• While this app has generally been praised by users, the following complaint does raise a few questions about possible compatibility issues, as well as the quality of customer support: “I have been using My-Cast on my phones since 2004. I have been using the iPhone version, My-Cast OneLook since 2008 and had a few issues with it when I upgraded to iOS4, but it was still useable. When I upgraded to iOS5 the screen controls ceased working. I contacted Garmin/Digital Cyclone and they said OneLook does not work with iOS5 and I would have to purchase this new version. While this new version does have some nice features, a free upgrade would have been in order. Instead, Garmin/Digital Cyclone renamed the product and charged $3.99 even to existing users who had already purchased it. 5 stars for the product itself. I would have given 1 star for customer satisfaction in regards to having to pay for it again.”
