Triply app review: discover new places and plan amazing trips with this invaluable iOS 7-friendly app

Reviews

Introduction

This is a wonderfully innovative traveler’s companion app that is designed to perform many operations automatically in the background. It downloads images and journey information so that you can plan your trips unhindered by clutter, lag, and endless travel guides full of irrelevant information.

The best iPhone apps for travel

You can always tell when an app has been put together by a developer who really has his or her thumb on the pulse of what the audience is going to truly want, and Triply is a shining example of this.

I really like the way that all of the information is downloaded and stored for offline access, meaning that you can check it out while you’re on the go without having to worry about exorbitant roaming charges when you’re visiting foreign countries.

Plan the Perfect Trip

When you first start using Triply - Discover Interesting Places and Plan Your Trip, it will automatically use your device’s integrated GPS in order to find your current location so that you can immediately begin planning your trips using your local area as the first point of reference.

From here, you’ll be asked which city you’re planning to visit, and when you begin typing you’ll be presented with tons of options. I typed London and was immediately given about a dozen different “Londons” to choose from. Once you’ve found the city you’re looking for, you can drill even deeper.

Looking at the Satelite [sic] map view of London, England, I can see dozens of pins scattered throughout the city, with each one representing a point of interest, be it a bar, café, restaurant, or tourist attraction.

When you tap on a pin you’ll be treated to a description and photograph of the place, courtesy of the awesome Foursquare service, and you can tap the Add to Trip button to change the color of the pin and make it part of your travel plans.

One especially cool feature enables you to tap the crosshair icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen and drag it onto an area of the map. This will bring up even more locations in that given region, and this is ideal for streamlining your visit to particularly larger cities so that you can get the most out of your time there.

Once you’ve added some locations to your trip, you can check out the Active Trips section to see a photo collage documenting your plans so far. From this screen you’ll also have the option of sharing your trip with your friends online via Facebook, Twitter, email, and text message.
