Reviews

Introduction

If your furry friend has been behaving a little erratically lately and you’re starting to worry, then before visiting the vet why not check out this awesome medical resource? It contains more than 2,000 articles that will help you match your pet’s symptoms to possible causes and put your mind at ease.

The best iPhone and iPad apps for pet owners

Being the animal lover that I am, I think it’s great to see a free resource like this available in the App Store.

If you have a cat or dog then I would definitely recommend keeping this app handy on your iPhone because you never know when it might come in handy, saving you time and money that would be spent on a trip to the vet.

Keep Your Best Friend Healthy

petMD Symptom Checker features a very easy-to-use step-by-step process for checking your pet’s symptoms.

Best iphone and ipad apps

When you first start up the app you’ll be prompted to choose whether you’ve got a kitty or doggy, and from there you’ll need to specify the Symptom Area, such as the Abdomen, Eyes, Hips And Hindquarters, Behavior, Skin And Hair Coat, and many more.

Each of these physical regions of your pet’s body contains a selection of possible symptoms that you’ll then be asked to specify. The example I’ve chosen is a cat’s tail, with possible symptoms such as Muscle Swelling, Pain, Difficulty Walking Rising Jumping, Stiffness, and more.

Happy, Healthy, Hairy!

Once you’ve chosen all of the symptoms that apply, you’ll be taken to the Article Results section which contains a ton of great pieces relevant to the symptoms and animal you’ve selected.

Unfortunately for my imaginary feline friend, we’re looking at possibilities such as Soft Tissue Cancer, Bone Tumor, Joint Cartilage Erosion, and possibly even Inter-cat Aggression. The articles themselves are very clearly laid-out, with a wonderfully sharp typeface and much of the information concisely presented in bullet point format.

I’m no veterinarian so I can’t vouch for the reliability of the information; however, the developer definitely seems to have done a great job of compiling an impressive compendium of cat and canine conditions.

It’s a happy coincidence that I should stumble upon petMD Symptom Checker because I’ve actually been giving some serious consideration to adopting a dog from a rescue shelter.
