Rhyme to Read app review: a great way to get kids to start reading 2021

Reviews

Introduction

Getting children to learn how to read early can be very positive for their further development and education. It will give them a head start in life as reading is still one of the most important skills to have in this world (You are reading this now, right?).

Waiting until school starts might not be an option for some impatient parents, but there are plenty of apps out there that will help your kid to learn this skill.

Rhyme to Read LLC has developed an iPhone learning to read app with the same name. In Rhyme to Read's learning to read app, your child will learn from beginning to experience sounds, link them with certain animals and objects while they read and rhyme at the same time.

How Does it Work?

As the parent, you will have all the control over which books they are reading from the app. The first one, Pat, delivers all kinds of words and sounds that rhyme with Pat and will slowly introduce extra words that your child will need to become an extra reader.

When you use this book with your children, you will soon see that they will be very excited as they’re actually finishing and reading books! You, as a parent, can then unlock the next book for them so they can continue reading and learning. The best test is to get your child read the book for you!

Graphics and Sound

As the app is designed for children, don’t expect too much in the graphics department. The artwork used is simple, clean but leaves a lot to wish for. While your kids are reading, you can have music playing in the background, but I think this might just be a distracting feature.

The app doesn’t feature any speech files, meaning your children will have to find out themselves, or with your help how to pronounce different sounds and words. This is a big letdown and something that the app creator should have thought about before asking $0.99 for each book. You can buy all books for a total of $9.99

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • A very good tool to get children to read
  • Easy books for your children to start learning
  • Good art style, but nothing too distracting

Cons

  • Distracting music when your kid reads
  • No audio speech files

Conclusion

Rhyme to Read is an amazing tool to get children to start to read. All kinds of methods have been proven wrong and all kids like to rhyme. This way they can learn and have fun at the same time.

The app might look pricey, but especially teachers might use this app a lot of times with different classes, and it will be worth the investment.

The graphics are about on par, and the music playing can be quite annoying, but the biggest missing feature is the lack of help with pronunciation from the app. The app only works with iPad.
