The Mouse and the Meadow app review: a really nice animated book for children

Reviews

Introduction

There are so many different books to be found in the App Store, all vying for the downloads of parents that really want their kids to learn how to read. Most of these apps claim to have interactivity, include games, or have other unique selling points to draw the parents in. The Mouse and the Meadow by Dawn Publication doesn’t promise anything like this and it doesn’t need to. This app simply holds a great story with beautiful artwork so that it doesn’t have to prove itself better than any other app. The Mouse and the Meadow is available for both iPad and iPhone for $2.99.

What it Offers

From the moment you boot up the app, you will notice the incredible art style that the entire app sports. It looks like all the drawings are made by hand and these will really drag you into the world of The Mouse and the Meadow. On the main screen, you will simply have to select if you want to read the book yourself, or if you want to have the book read to you. If you choose the latter option, a nice and calm voice will read the book to you and you only have to enjoy the story and then artwork. The read it yourself option is a bit more taxing. Some of the text overlaps badly with the artwork, making some text difficult to read. This is, however, the only flaw I could find in the app.

The Story and the Lessons to Learn

The story in The Mouse and the Meadow is, as you can guess, about a mouse who will go on adventure in a field. Here the mouse will meet all kinds of interesting animals and learn about all the seemingly magical abilities these creatures have. For example, our mouse meets a firefly and learns about its ability to glow when it is in danger or feels threatened. All of the pages in the book are animated and some are even interactive, so your child can learn while the images are moving and can tap the insects to see their abilities.

Conclusion

The Mouse and the Meadow is a fantastic story for kids that are just learning to read. The app teaches them about the wonders this world has to offer and is a charm to be listen to. The art style used in the book is fantastic and on top of that, all the pages are animated and interactive, though this is not necessarily a selling point for the book. Sometimes the text overlaps the drawings, which can be annoying, but nothing you should take into account to make a decision to buy this app. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and costs $2.99.
