Introduction
This is a very fun game which follows along a similar vein to classic Playstation titles such as Rayman and Pandemonium, seeing you take the role of a very special feline as you run, jump, and even fly through endless miles of unforgiving volcanic caves while you gobble every cat treat in sight.

I’ve been trying to decide if I love or hate this game because one thing that really jumps out when you first start playing LavaCat is that it really isn’t easy!
As the developer has mentioned on the iTunes description page, LavaCat is “old-school difficult,” but there is some great variety in the different game modes and those of you with some fast thumbs will almost definitely have a lot of fun with the challenges that lurk within.
Run, Jump, and... Fly!
As soon as you start up this game and reach the main menu, you’ll be treated to a very epic-sounding musical score which I think sets the scene nicely for the game as a whole.

There are four main game modes which are Tutorial, Adventure, Puzzle, and Minigames.
The Tutorial, as you might imagine, provides a slideshow of images which give a little bit of back story to the game, while also taking you through the basic mechanics of the game such as the control system, the role of cat treats, and what each power up does.
Cat Treats for All!
Speaking of power ups, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for things like pajamas and supercapes as these will give you some awesome extra benefits such as being able to walk on lava or soar through the air across long distances.

The Puzzle and Minigames sections include a variety of challenges which take full advantage of the control system in terms of running, jumping, and flying, with the added challenge of trying to track down rings to jump through in order to complete each Puzzle stage.
As you collect more cat treats, you’ll be able to spend them in the Shop by either purchasing power ups in their own right or upgrading them so that they become more effective when you find them in-game.

Final Words
I think this is a great game with a very impressive mixture of 2-D and 3-D graphics, but I’m still undecided about what I think of the control system because it is admittedly a little awkward.
In general, I would say that this adds nicely to the overall difficulty of the game so I would definitely recommend trying out LavaCat because I for one think it’s a lot of fun.
