Flixter with Rotten Tomatoes
Current Version Rating: 5/5 from 5841
Flixter have teamed up with Rotten Tomatoes to provide pretty much what IMBD have to offer but with the added bonus of being able to download full-length movies.
It does require you to have a Facebook account to use some of its features, but aside from that it’s a great way to not just rate and review your favorites and create your own “want to see list”, but with Flixter you get to search theatres within your area, see what’s on and buy tickets – from participating theatres of this app.
A real easy to use interface it’s a great free app.
Showtimes
Price: Free
Current Version Rating: 3/5 from 450
Showtimes is simple to use and an easy way to check out your local cinemas, see what’s on, read the ratings and get directions through GPS.
However, what started off as a great movie app unfortunately has succumbed to displaying far too many ads which renders it slow with little content.
Fandango
Price: Free
Current Version Rating: 5 from 671
Winner of the webby awards, it pretty much does what the others do plus like Flixter you can book and buy tickets with participating theatres.
Described as easy to use you can email a friend details of what’s on if they fancy a night out, search a radius of up to 250 miles, and find out what amenities there are like mobile parking and with the iPad you can filter movies by MPAA rating, genre and format such as IMAX or 3D.
Cinetap Netflix
Price: Free
Current Version Rating: 4/5 from 27
Netflix if you’re not familiar is an American provider of online streaming movies in the U.S, Canada, Latin America and now the UK and Ireland.
If you don’t reside in any of these parts then you won’t unfortunately be able to access it.
For those that do, Netflix is available on the Amazon Kindle Fire, Internet TV’s and basically on anything which can stream movies and get online.
However as with many apps, you will need to upgrade from the free app to use many of its features.
You can search for movies to stream right up to 2011 but you will need to use the in-app upgrade of $2 to do so in some cases.
Ideally suited to an iPad screen there are still a number of free features and those not marked with the “!” - will not require a single $2 in-app purchase upgrade.
The interface is nicely decked out and the preview section is particularly popular among movie buffs before you go on and choose a vid to stream.
