Reviews

Introduction

Residents of Jacksonville are definitely going to want to take a look at this app, which provides up-to-the-minute weather forecasting in a variety of visual formats, with coverage for up to seven days into the future.

The best iPad apps for weather

This is a great weather app which seems to have taken a slightly different path to other comparable apps within this genre of the App Store.

The user-interface fits in perfectly with the visual elements of iOS 7, and I’ve been finding the content to be very recent and reliable. This is a very solid development which definitely receives a strong recommendation from me.

Dedicated Weather Forecasting for Jacksonville

When you first start using WJXT: The Weather Authority, it will use your iPhone’s integrated GPS in order to determine your current location. This will ensure you immediately begin receiving relevant weather information for your local area.

This will also enable you to immediately view a radar map image of your region so that you can view any severe weather fronts which may be heading in your direction. If you tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen, you’ll also be able to access even more content.

If you want a detailed look at the weather for the coming 48 hours then the Today or Tomorrow sections should suffice. Within these you’ll find all of the usual details displayed in an hourly format, such as temperature, chance of precipitation, humidity, and more.

View Seven Days of Weather Forecasts

The 7-Day Outlook doesn’t offer the same level of hour-by-hour detail; however, it does provide the high and low temperatures for the coming week or so, complete with the chance of precipitation and a simple graphical representation of the kind of conditions you can expect.

The Weather News section is also a pretty cool addition, featuring Local Weather Headlines and forecasts available in a video format. At present, I can only see Saturday’s forecast, so it appears as if the video content might be a little out of date.

All in all, this is a very solid weather forecasting app with loads of content and a very attractive user-interface.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Detailed weather forecasting for residents of Jacksonville
  • View weather forecasts for up to seven days into the future across a variety of visual formats
  • Receive Push notifications for severe weather conditions in your area
  • Weather News headlines and video forecasts

Cons

  • There is nothing negative to say about this app

Final Words

WJXT: The Weather Authority certainly isn’t the most comprehensive weather forecasting app that I’ve ever come across, and it does only offer seven days of predictions as opposed to the more common ten.

I would like to say, however, that this is clearly a high-quality development, and I’m pleased to see a little variety in terms of the interface design.
