Redditor app review: the ultimate app for reading Reddit?

Reviews

Introduction

There are quite a few reddit readers in the App Store, and all claim to be the best one out there. Redditor by developer My Life claims to be the perfect client for reddit, and my first impressions are indeed very good. The app for iPad and iPhone gives you a lot of options that were previously only available on the reddit website and the design of the app is very well done. It’s easy to choose a topic from the list and find specific posts that you were previously reading. Redditor might actually be the best reddit reader!

Media Functionality

Redditor has all the standard functions you would expect from a reddit reader, or any other reader for that matter. Where it really stands out is all the other functionalities thrown in by the developer. First of all, the app supports slideshows from Imgur, so you can easily browse through a selection of photos.

Secondly, the app plays videos without a hitch from within the app. This is something more reddit readers should implement, as it is so annoying when you have to leave the app to be able to watch a simple video. On top of this, and this is one of the things why I love reddit so much, is the fact it supports animated GIF files. These are found all over reddit and it’s really nice the app supports this.

More functionality!

On top of all this, the app features a full-fledged search function, allowing you to find and add sub reddits. You can also bookmark interesting posts for later viewing. You can save, copy and email your favorite images and even up and down vote posts and write comments! One thing that is something that should be in ever app is to add a new reddit, but that is a functionality I haven’t seen often.

If you are the original poster, you can even go to OP mode on the comments page, giving you a lot more options to edit your comments. Lastly you can make and unmake friends, look at user profiles and send private messages. All in all, it's a pretty complete package!

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Supports all media files
  • All the options you need if you are a hardcore redditter
  • Add new or sub posts

Cons

  • You have to be online
  • No saving posts offline

Conclusion

The developer was right! Redditor is the perfect reader for reddit! With so many options, supported files and accessibility to the reddit website, it’s hard to overlook this app if you’re an avid user of the site. I would like to see a “read late” option in future updates of the app, but for now, this app is not leaving my device until another app offers me that option. The app is fully compatible for iPad and iPhone and is just under 5 MB in size. That means you have no reason not to try it right now!
