English Tagalog Dictionary Free app review: translate anything from English to Tagalog
Introduction
Dictionaries are common in the App Store, but not all languages are equally represented. Finding a dictionary for some of the less spoken languages of the world can be quite a challenge, and finding one for free is even more difficult. Developer Anna Koroleva is well known in the realm of languages in the App Store as she delivers more and more dictionaries every once in a while for the more obscure languages of the world. English Tagalog Dictionary Free is the latest addition to her portfolio, giving you the option to translate anything from English to this Austronesian language which is mainly being spoken in the Philippines. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone.

App Design
The app is designed to be used by everyone, but is only available in the English language. Luckily, there isn’t much text in the app, so even people who want to use this app and only speak Tagalog will not have any difficulty using this app. The app is well-designed, and all the icons in the bottom of the screen are displayed with a picture rather than text. On the top of the screen you can find a search form which will update the list below while you type. You can also set words as favorites and see your entire history, which can be really helpful if you use common words or phrases often. Lastly you can customize the layout of the app by selecting different backgrounds and themes.

Other Features
The dictionary is completely available offline. There is one downside to this, as the app is not useable before you download the dictionary to your device. This download is about 2 MB in size, and if you’re on a Wi-Fi connection it won’t take very long, but the app doesn’t tell you before you download it. Some features are only available in the paid version, such as text-to-speech. The paid version costs $2.99 and will also make the app completely ad free. Text to speech is delivered by iSpeech and only works when you’re online, making this a pretty useless addition if you got this app for its online functionality.

Conclusion
With the lack of choice available in the App Store, I would definitely say that this app is the best English-to-Tagalog dictionary available on the App Store. Even though there is an initial download, the app works fluently and quickly, while some minor functions are only available online. You can easily set favorite words and see your history at any point in time. The app is over 30 MB, which makes me interested in why the initial download of 2 MB isn’t just included. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone.
