Introduction
This is an absolutely fantastic iPhone and iPad app which has been designed to provide those of you who are preparing for your first half marathon with an incredibly effective training method, courtesy of best-selling author and master marathon runner, Hal Higdon.
I’d like to start out by saying that this is evidently not the cheapest app of its kind within the Health & Fitness category of the App Store, but as I see time and time again with apps, you very often do get what you pay for. This is definitely the case here.
If you’re serious about running a half marathon then this app will get you there, even if you have no running experience, so I’d say it’s almost certainly worth every dime and would very much recommend it.
Perfect for the Beginner
Hal Higdon 1/2 Marathon Training Program - Novice 1 works with your device’s integrated GPS to provide you with data pertaining to your distance and pace while you run. This enables you to set personal goals and monitor your progress over time.
You can also use the tracking tools in this app to monitor your weight loss, which is sure to happen if you go from a couch potato to a full-blown training program such as this. Again, goals can be set to motivate you in your weight loss efforts.

Share Your Progress Online
There are loads of cool little features in this app, including the Half Point alert which I really like because it tells you when you need to turn back halfway through your runs. You can also synchronize your runs with the TrainingPeaks software for even more extensive tracking.
What’s more, you’ll be pleased to know that you can also share your running sessions with your friends and family online via Facebook and Twitter, so this is a great way of keeping everyone in the loop with your progress…or just bragging about your newfound fitness!
