A Rabbit’s Tale app review: a simple and short animated story book

Reviews

Introduction

Another day, another animated story book. This one in particular is developed to showcase the talent of the developer, so as to share more of its other books via a store that is to be found within each of the apps. The developer of A Rabbit’s Tale , Ink Robin Inc. specializes in creating interactive story book for the young ones, but don’t go above and beyond that. They have created a whole series of these books, all available for free in the App Store and all are developed with both iPad and iPhone in mind.

What it Offers

This particular story book focuses around a clever city rabbit named Gordon. He never had a break of all the fun things that are available in the city that he decides to have a break from the city. The hero of the story decides to go into nature and visit his cousin Fox (which is a bit crazy, as I believe foxes eat rabbits in nature). Here Fox will take him on a tour through the forest where the duo will meet all kinds of animals and get in all kinds of trouble. The app allows you to add a bookmark wherever you want in the book, which allows you to continue reading after you had a break. The book also has full audio, so when you don’t want to read yourself, you can decide to have the book read to your children instead of reading it yourself.

Interactivity and the Store

One of the ways this book is especially attractive is the fact that all of the pages are made to be interactive in different ways. For example, when you tap on a particular part of the page, a short animation, with sound, will be played. Sometimes you can move the background and Gordon will say hi to all the different animals that cross his path. I am a bit confused as of how this developer will actually make money, as in the store that you see when you boot up the app; all the books are available for free. All these books are very short, but they do deliver a similar interactivity that A Rabbit’s Tale does, including narration and sound!

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Completely free
  • Fully narrated
  • Tons of interactivity

Cons

  • The stories are quite short

Conclusion

Parents who would like to keep their children busy for a while should not hesitate to download this app. Apart from A Rabbit’s Tale, there are tons of free books available from within the app, and all of these can be downloaded as separate apps. The interactivity is very good and has sound as well as movement. The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone, and is just over 150 MB, which is quite large for such a short story.
