WWII Defense app review: a semi-realistic tower defense game set in World War II
Introduction
There are many different tower defense games in the App Store. Many of these are actually based in a fantasy world, either of myths and monsters or somewhere in space using future technology to eliminate an alien threat. There are not many tower defense games that actually take on this time in history and try to recreate battles that actually happened. This of course will never be truly realistic, but it’s a fresh take on a genre full of aliens, zombies, and dragons. Developer Karim Charubin must have thought the same as he created WWII Defense. This app, developed for both iPad and iPhone, is taking on three different campaigns from World War II and is just over 75 MB.

Gameplay
Gameplay is exactly what you would expect and is quite traditional for a tower defense game. Enemies will come in from one side, follow a pre-determined path and leave on the other side if you don’t kill them. You need to build towers (units) on the side of the road and try and finish them off before they leave the level. There are a lot of different ways to slow the enemies down as well, using mines and barbed wire that you can place on the path.

All of these units and power-ups cost money, which you earn by killing off enemies. You can also use gold that you earn by finishing missions to get some extra money in levels you will struggle with. Lastly you can drop bombs as well, killing groups of enemies at the same time.

Graphics and Sound
In comparison to any other tower defense game on the App Store, WWII Defense hasn’t got the best graphics out there. The maps are pretty low resolution and the different units are very simply animated. The menus of the game are very well made, giving you opportunities to upgrade units before a battle to make them stronger overall. The sound of the game is similar, not really up to par with other games on the App Store, but still sufficient for the game to be fun and polished. All in all this game leaves a good impression and I will definitely play this game more.

Conclusion
WWII Defense is a very simple tower defense game, but only in design, the game has a good difficulty and is really fun to play. The graphics and the sound are not too impressive, but it doesn’t really matter. The game is fun to play and gives a lot of content, all for free. The game is developed for both iPad and iPhone and is just over 75 MB, which is a great size for all the content it gives you.
