Stick Soccer app review: a simple football game using a swipe mechanic
Introduction
Since the World Cup has started, a ton of different football apps have been released, but only a handful of them were actually games. Most of them were simply news apps or apps that will keep you up to date on the latest score. No developer has released a World Cup game either, which is a bit strange. Developer Stick Sports Ltd has released many different sports apps in the past. All of these are based on the same graphic style but focus on one small aspect of each sport. In spite of that, these games are really successful and this will probably also be the case with Stick Soccer. This app is designed for both iPad and iPhone and is just over 50 MB.

Gameplay
As mentioned before, this game is simply based on one aspect of the football sport, namely the scoring part. You will have a static view of the goal, including a goal keeper and some defenders and the ball will pass in front of you many times. You goal is to swipe the ball so it hits the goal while avoiding the opposition, scoring for your team. This is all time-based, as you get two rounds of 45 seconds to score as many goals as you can. The opposing team will have the same opportunity, but this will happen off-screen. You will simply see their scoreboard go up while you play. You can’t do anything against them scoring and the team with the highest score at the end of a game wins.

Graphics and Sound
When I saw the name Stick Soccer, and I had the same feeling with their previous games but I never checked them, I thought this would simply use stickmen to show what the game is about. You know those black anthropomorphic people used in many other games? This is not the case, as all characters are actually human. The game looks great and not at all the 8-bit style I expected. The sound of the game is also excellent and you will feel like you’re in an actual stadium while you are playing this game. You can also play online against friends or other people.
