Introduction
Preschool Memory Match and Learn: 7 in 1 Educational Matching Games for Kids HD is an iPad and iPhone app that teaches young children both memory skills and recognition skills in colors, alphabet, shapes, fruit, nature, vegetables, and numbers. This app is fun for young learners, but also challenging as memory games are a higher learning skill that is not understood until around three years of age.

Stretching Your Preschooler's Thinking
Preschool Memory Match is a unique app in that it takes the learning of alphabet letters, numbers, shapes, colors, fruit, vegetables, and nature and rather than quizzing or using flash cards, it presents them in a simple matching game. The first round has four cards of two pairs. This app increases in difficulty by adding one pair at a time. Each time you complete a round, a pair is added. This is an okay pace; however, I would like it if the two-pair rounds were able to be set as a beginner level. My two-year-old did all right with two pairs, but when more cards were added, she got frustrated. In fact, when I play memory games with her, I do more of a hide and seek, and leave the memory cards turned up to match instead.

Learning In A Game
Lots of games have built in educational components. Preschool Memory Match encourages your child to learn provided you are playing with them. The cards announce the name of the items when you successfully match them. For example, when you match the kiwis, the cards dance and sing “kiwi!”
I like that this game is a more passive learning. You don’t have it shouting the letters at you, or the vegetables. When you successfully match, you are rewarded with the item name, but you really don’t realize that it’s an educational game.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free
- Passive learning
- Six different categories to match
- Starts with just two pairs and increases one pair at a time to gently increase the difficulty for your preschooler
Cons
- To unlock the full version you need to do an in-app purchase
- Not necessarily age appropriate for your two-year-old as they don’t quite understand the matching and flipping
Final Thoughts
Preschool Memory Match for iPad and iPhone is an educational matching game for young learners. If you are looking for a matching game for your three-to-four year old, than this is a great game. If you have a two-to-three year old, you can help with learning the skill, but keep in mind that they are not yet developmentally ready for this skill. They still play peek-a-boo with great gusto! I enjoyed this app and would recommend it as a flash card game for older preschoolers.
