Cute Characters Doing Cute Things
Endless Reader is a learn-to-read app that comes with a sample of letters A through F unlocked for your child to try. Each letter has a word which fits into a series of sentences for your child to practice. A has all, B has ball, C has cake, D has dog, E has eat, and F has funny. Further letters add to the sentences and provide more sight words for your child.
The best iPad apps for learning how to read
The first task for your child is to take the letters of the word and line them up with the outline. Each letter squeals its name as your child holds and drags it to the outline. The next task is to fill the words into their outline in the sentences. The sentences start with three words to drag into their spots, and slowly increase to challenge your child.
Limitations
Endless Reader is not a subscription service so there is just a one-time fee. This is appreciated when compared with the subscription model. $11.99 is a lot for an educational app, however, when compared with a videogame you could purchase for the same purpose, it is more cost effective.

What I do like is that your child can practice with letters A through F prior to your purchase. This allows you to see if the learning style presented in the app will suit your child prior to making the purchase.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- A-F free for trial
- Fun characters to interact with for each letter
- Each letter sings its name while you drag it to the outlines reinforcing letter recognition
Cons
- 20 additional words for $4.99
- 99 additional words for $11.99
- Expensive, but not as much as a store-bought videogame
Final Thoughts
Endless Reader is an iPad app that uses sight words to assist your child with reading. With fun characters, dancing letters, and constructing monsters, this family app is more game than work for your child. Learning should be fun, and the developers definitely took this into consideration when thinking of how to get the lessons across to children.
This app has a lot of great features, but it’s not free, and it’s not on the inexpensive list. What I can say is that if you were in the market for a computer game for your child to assist with learning to read, such as Reader Rabbit, than this app does cost less than many of those games. $11.99 is expensive as far as apps go, but not bad in the videogame world!
