Introduction
Kids Animal Piano is an iPad app to help your child engage with music. The app has a free portion and a paid portion. Unfortunately the free portion only includes six animals and no musical instruments, so your child can only make the music with the nine keys using animal sounds.

Play the Piano, Sort Of
Kids Animal Piano is a fun novelty app for kids. It is not a full keyboard by any measure, but it does have nine keys for your child to play a little tune. Songs included are Bingo, Black Sheep, Brother John, and Happy Birthday. Each song can be played in one of the animal voices of dog, cat, duck, frog, bird or sheep. The paid version also includes This Old Man, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Five Little Monkeys, Hush Little Baby, and Alphabet Song. It also unlocks the animals sheep, donkey, monkey, horse, lamb, cowbell, piano, guitar, and drum.
The best iPad apps for Preschool (Pre-K)While I only had the limited version to play with, I did enjoy the app. As each song plays, the keys light up for your child to follow along next time. This means that not only is a song being played, but your child has the ability to learn how to play the song as well.
Animals Barking Songs?
Kids Animal Piano in the free version only has animal sounds unlocked. This does become annoying after the 20th time hearing BINGO tooted in a dog woof, but it’s for the kids! My two-year-old loved changing the song, changing the animal, taping along with the song, and she could play her own songs after the sample songs had finished.
The best piano apps for iPhone-2021This means that even though there are four built-in songs, you are not limited to these songs to play. If you have a small knowledge of music and can change the key to fit around middle C, than you can teach your child a few songs as well. The paid songs are not that difficult, and anyone who takes the time to hum along and tap for a few minutes can show their child how to play Three Blind Mice, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, or even more complicated songs provided they don’t go any higher than G or lower than F.
You can do slides, however you cannot hold the notes. They are all very short sounded, so if you are trying to play a song with longer than a quarter note, it’s not going to sound as smooth.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Free songs and free sounds
- Nine keys to play songs
- Keys light up as the sample songs are played so your child can copy the songs afterwards
Cons
- Not all sounds are unlocked
- None of the sounds that come free are musical instruments
Final Thoughts
Kids Animal Piano is an iPad app to get your child interested in music. It has nine keys to practice, four songs, and eight animals. While I couldn’t play instrument sounds, I didn’t mind the animal sounds. My two-year-old loved it, and my six-year-old was right there playing too! Overall, I wouldn’t buy the full version, but it is fun for the kids to play with and learn a little bit of music.
