My Baby's Beat app review: hear your baby’s heartbeat 2021

Reviews

Introduction

Perhaps one of the most monumental moments in any pregnancy is the moment the parents hear their baby's heartbeat. My Baby's Beat is a pregnancy app designed to turn your iPhone or iPad into a stethoscope that can enable you to listen to your baby's heartbeat.

This pregnancy tracking app for iPhone has become very popular since its release and has not only been featured in Apple's Staff Pick, but also reached the Top 10 apps in the U.S., UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, France, and China, among other countries.

You can find this app in the Medical section of the App Store, where it can be purchased for $4.99. You can't really put a price to hearing your baby's heartbeat, but if this app works, it'd surely be worth every penny and then some.

Let's find out how this good iPhone app for pregnancy works through our My Babys Best app review.

Design & Layout

My Baby's Beat - Hear baby heartbeat sound takes up just 26 MB of space on your iOS device. The first thing you'll notice is the really beautiful layout with a red and white theme.

There are four sections within this app which are navigable using four icons at the bottom of the screen, including Main, Recordings, Settings, and Help.

Once you enter your pregnancy information, you start using this health & fitness app. The Main screen is where you'll be able to listen to as well as record your baby's heartbeat.

All the recordings are saved in the Recording section with the date, timestamp, as well as other details about your pregnancy including the week.

You will also be able to share your baby's heartbeat with loved ones using email, Facebook, or Twitter, as all of these communication channels are integrated into the app.

Questionable Efficacy

The Help section contains a tutorial which should be watched through prior to beginning. It is important to note that this app was designed for women who are 30 to 40 weeks into their pregnancy.

Some users have reported successfully hearing their baby's heartbeat as early as 20 weeks, but these are few and far between.

The way this app works is that it captures any abdominal sounds using the microphone and then amplifies them.

Though some users have reported successfully hearing their baby's heartbeat, it is clear that a vast majority of users are unable to successfully detect even their own heartbeat, much less the far weaker one of their baby, despite following instructions to a tee.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • This app is designed to allow you to hear your baby’s heartbeat; however, it really seems to be ineffective

Cons

  • To further illustrate the ineffectiveness of this app, here are a couple of very negative user reviews from the iTunes description page: “I bought this app months ago hoping at some point it just might work. I'll be 36 weeks in three days and it still doesn't work!! They should be refunding money, terrible to scam expecting mothers! I know it's an exciting thought, but it'll only frustrate you that you wasted any money on it, trust me!”
  • “I was very disappointed in this app. :( I read thin instructions. Went to a room with no noise. No fan, no a/c, no TV's or radios on any where. And it wasn't even able to pick up my own heart beat :(“

Final Words

Though My Baby's Beat - Hear baby heartbeat sound is a really beautifully conceived app, it ranks fairly low in its efficacy. If you do decide to get this app on your iPhone or iPad, be fully prepared for the possibility that it won't work for you.
