ABC Alphabet Phonics app review
Introduction
ABC Alphabet Phonics - Preschool Game Free Lite is an iPad and iPhone app to help your child learn their alphabet. The app works by simply flashing a collection of letters and asking your child to tap the spoken letter.
The best iPhone learning to read apps for kids
Easy to Use
ABC Alphabet Phonics simply speaks a letter, and your child taps the letter heard. As the game progresses, more and more letters are available for your child to tap. Initially there are two, increasing up to eight or more. The sizes also vary as the difficulty increases.

The letters never get smaller than an inch on the iPad though, so they will be easily seen on an iPhone too. They are colorful, crisp, and clear, and they are also spaced out well enough that your child won’t accidentally tap on the letter beside.
Example of selecting a letter.
Hand Eye Coordination
ABC Alphabet Phonics doesn’t require a lot of hand eye coordination. At two, my daughter is beginning to learn her letters, but her tapping skills are still a work in progress. This app actually helps this a bit though, as she can tap tap tap and not worry about hitting the letter next to her target. They are spaced out well enough that on my iPad this isn’t a problem.

Crisp and clear pronunciation and encouragement is also a great aspect of this app. Some have less clear instructional voices, but this isn’t an issue here. I really appreciate not having to guess at what letter was said! Was that an M or an N?
Example of selecting I.

Final Thoughts
ABC Alphabet Phonics - Preschool Game Free Lite is an iPad and iPhone app to help your child learn the alphabet letters. The voice is crisp and clear, and the letters themselves are colorful and spaced appropriately for little tappers. My two-year-old enjoys this app, and is learning her letters quite well helping me test out apps. We do a little home schooling session on the iPad every day, so it’s just built into our day. Overall, I would recommend this app as a starting point. If you have a young child who is just starting, then sitting down with him or her and helping to recognize the letters is a great way of practicing. If you have an older child who needs a back-to-school refresher, this will also be great, and as briefly mentioned, it would also be useful in a homeschooling family. Give it a try.
