In the bowling exercise, the narrator counts along with players so that they can begin to count independently. In the second activity, building, your child has to count on his or her own to add up the blocks. Finally in the third activity your child has to move the toys off the carpet to find the ball. By working through the activities, your child will learn to count.

I always suggest that children play with apps with parents or caregivers. When the counting is reinforced by a parent or caregiver’s encouragement, learning happens faster. The narrator speaks in a rather monotone voice, so the excitement of the caregiver will make this detail less noticeable.

Counting and Addition ! Math and Numbers works because kids love to learn, and learning with games makes that all the more fun. Kids are natural sponges, so if you give them the chance to learn, they will. Doing simple activities like counting the steps as you walk them, the houses as you go past them, pushes on a swing, and so on will help your child learn. Adding in an app for enrichment will only help them learn that much more quickly. My two-year-old loves to help me with my work, and she tests many of the apps out with me. She didn’t like this one too much, but she has others that are similar and became bored.

What I do like about this app is that the games start with a low number and don’t go over that number until you choose to move to the next activity. When bowling, the highest number is six. Each bowler has three pins, and each bowler knocks down one to three pins. Your child counts them with the help of the narrator and then selects the correct number of total pins. For the blocks, they have to count independently, and that’s where the addition skill begins.

It is a fun game for preschoolers, but is a little too tricky for toddlers. My toddler didn’t really like it for this reason, and it was too easy for my six-year-old. There is that JK/SK gap though that would really benefit from this app.
