December 10 is Human Rights Day – so why not celebrate it by downloading Youth for Human Rights Online Education to help your children (or you) become more engaged in human rights topics?

Youth for Human Rights Online Education by United for Human Rights International is an app that sets out the goal where we can live in a world where everyone treats everyone else with dignity and respect. This eventuality, should it come, will be through education, research, and advocacy.

This app was designed for students in the elementary, middle, and high school levels, to be used either as a stand-alone course or to supplement another curriculum. Its focus is to help get students engaged in topics pertaining to human rights and to help them put those principles into action.

The app itself is for teachers, in that it shows the methods used to get kids involved, although it would also work for youth group leaders, parents, and mentors.

You’ll get the Educator’s Guide, a documentary called The Story of Human Rights, public service announcements that illustrate the 30 human rights, two booklets called “The Story of Human Rights” and “What are Human Rights?” and the UNITED music video.

There are so many features of this app that it’s hard to list them all here. Teachers can use the app to deliver the curriculum or have students download the app and do assignments at school or home. There’s a grading system included, a messaging and notification system, and access to all materials via the website.Youth for Human Rights Online Education app review

The app was updated to Version 1.2 on November 30, 2012. The update added support for the new size of the iPhone 5, improved Retina display support, and made performance and stability improvements. There are currently not enough customer ratings for iTunes to display an average and there are not yet any feedback comments.

I really like the idea of this app because it’s important that all students be familiar with human rights. It seems like a very robust app for educators, parents, and other childcare workers.
