Dress Up! Makeover app review: explore your inner makeup artist
Introduction
Most little girls love playing dress-up with their dolls, but there’s only so much they can do with a doll. They can’t change the doll's make up, and they can’t change their doll's skin tone. With Dress Up! Makeover your little girl can make just about any change they want to their model. They’ll have a whole lot of fun with this one, and Mum will probably have just as much fun playing with them. It’s a free app, and it’s compatible with iPhone, iPad, and the iPod touch.

Create the Perfect Look
With so much competition in the App Store for dress up apps for an app to be successful it has to offer all the little extras that a little girl wants to see. Dress Up! Makeover does a pretty good job, but it falls short in a couple of areas. There are several different scenarios your little one can choose from, but not all of them offer the same choices. In some scenarios, for example, you can choose the models outfit, but in others you can’t. This seems a little strange to say the least. Why not allow all possible options in each scenario?

What I did really like about this app was its social media options. Social media is such a big part of our lives these days that to ignore it is a major mistake. Dress Up! Makeover allows your little fashionistas to share their creations on Facebook, on Twitter, via email, or they can simply save it in their photo collection. At 16.5Mb it’s not a very big download, so you won’t have to worry about it taking up too much space on your device.
How it Works
Using the app is pretty straightforward. You have six different scenarios to choose from, so simply tap on a selection and you can start applying your makeover. Within each scenario you can change several aspects of your models appearance: everything from your models lipstick shade to their outfit. Although for some strange reason you can’t change your model's outfit in every scenario. In some scenarios this option is locked unless you want to access it with an in-app purchase. Try explaining to a five-year-old that they can’t change the models outfit because you don’t want to waste your money with in-app purchases!

Providing different scenarios is a great little feature of this app. Your child can visit the spa for a makeover or hang out with friends giving each other a makeover. It makes the app a little more exciting for your child when there are different options; if they get bored with one they can simply switch to another. Overall it’s not a bad app as my only other issue with it was that the different applications offered too few choices. For example, when you apply different types of blush to your model it’s hard to tell if it really made a difference.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Easy to use
-
Multiple different scenarios to choose from
-
Ability to share your creations through social media
Cons
-
You don’t have access to all options within each scenario unless you want to make an in-app purchase
-
Makeup application choices are limited
Final Thoughts
This is a good app for little girls that like to play dress-up, but it’s not a great one. To access all the options within each scenario you will have to make in-app purchases which is a little annoying.
