Almost all apps these days face a lot of competition in saturated segments. We’ve all heard the term “there is an app for that” and in the last couple of years that has really become the truth. What makes Headliner unique is that there really aren’t any other apps exactly like it.

You can certainly provide your own newscasts on your personal YouTube channel, but chances are no one will ever see them in a crowded marketplace. Headliner provides a form for you to try your hand at satirical news casting on a platform where you know someone is actually watching.

This app has a simple and intuitive user interface, but you will have to create a profile before you start using it. This isn’t a major issue though as it’s just a matter of providing your email address, creating a user name, and creating a password for your profile – it only takes a couple seconds.

There are no ads or in-app purchases to get in the way. While there aren’t any instructions, you really don’t need any – the interface is that intuitive. This app will require 21.2 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How It Works

The first time you open Headliner you’ll have to create your user profile before you can continue – as we mentioned above this only takes a minute or two and then you can start enjoying your newscasts.

On this first run the app will also suggest some of the more popular users to follow – this will allow you to populate your main feed and provide you with some clips to get you started. You can always add more later, or delete some if you want to.

Navigating your way around the app is pretty simple. There’s a menu at the bottom of the screen with four simple little icons. The first one, which looks like a bullhorn, is where you’ll find your main newsfeed. You can simply scroll through the feed to you find a topic you want to learn more about and then simply tap on it to view the news clips – if you don’t like a particular clip you can simply swipe it off the screen to the left to move onto the next one.

The second icon on the menu is a search option which allows you to search by any topic you think might be available in the feed. If you want to add your own clips to the available newscasts you can do this by tapping on the third icon which looks like a little person – this will bring up a simple page that you can tap on to start creating your first video clip.

You will of course have to allow the app access to your camera in order to create a video. Once you finish your video you can share it right away.
