When you own your own business keeping track of all the taxes that you can claim on your annual taxes can be a bit of a challenge – I know I struggle with this myself. Most small business owners have great intentions of tracking all of their expenses and saving money wherever they can.
The best mileage tracking apps for iPhone and iPad 2021Ufortunately, running a small business tends to get in the way and expense tracking takes a back burner. As it turns out, there’s actually a great app that can help you track your mileage and expenses automatically without you having to lift a finger.
The app is called Everlance and it really can revolutionize the way you deal with expenses for your small business.
The Everlance expenses app is free to download. Additionally, the Everlance app for iPhone is also compatible with the iPad and iPod touch. Let's dig deeper into the Everlance mileage tracker app review to see what it offers.
Everlance was created by a group out of Stanford University and was launched in 2015. The Everlance team recognized their own frustration with tracking mileage and expenses and decided they wanted to do something about it.
The best iPhone apps for doing your own taxesThe company’s founder and CEO Alex Marlantes said they wanted to create an app that would track your mileage in the background – the basic idea was that you could set it up and then forget it was even there until the end of the day or the end of the week when you’re ready to review it.
The other thing they wanted to do was to keep the app completely free. Marlantes recognized that there are other mileage and expense apps in the App Store, but these generally require some sort of fee payment and that sort of sets this app apart from its competitors.
It’s a great app as it stands right now, but the company isn’t resting on its laurels. According to its founder, they are constantly looking for ways to upgrade the app, such as the recent addition of trip cards that allow you to quickly and easily change a trip from a work trip to a personal trip.
It’s a simple matter of a swipe on your screen. They don’t plan on stopping there either and are constantly looking for further ways to tweak their app.
As we’ve already mentioned, there are other expense and mileage tracking apps in the App Store, but most of them are paid apps – at least the good ones. I’ve tried out a couple before such as MileBug and Easy GPS Mileage and they do work very well – it’s just that they’re not free.
The best budgeting apps for iPhone and iPadThat is the key difference between Everlance and its competitors – it doesn’t hurt that it works exactly as advertised either. I’ve always been a believer in the philosophy that if I can obtain something for free or at minimal cost that does exactly what I need it to do then there’s no way I’m going to pay for it.
From the very first time you use this app, you’ll get a good vibe. They provide you with an excellent walk-through of the app that includes some screenshots that make things very clear and this is accessible at any time if you need to review it later on.
There are no ads, or in-app purchases related to the actual use of the app – although they do offer paid tax services through their app.
It also has a nice, clean user interface with easily recognizable navigation buttons that make using the app a breeze. This app will require 26.7 MB of available space on your iOS device.
This app undergoes regular updates to address bugs and crashes. The performance and stabilization of this app is top notch.
The first time you run the app you’ll have to sign up before you can begin using it, but this is a pretty simple process as you simply have to provide your email address and create a password. You’ll also have to allow the app access to your device's GPS functions to work properly and then you’re ready to get started.
Essentially, Everlance is divided into four main sections. There’s a home screen which provides a full summary of all of your expenses and mileage calculations and lays it out in a nice clean format.
There’s actually a nice graphic representation of your mileage that divides it into four different quadrants: work, personal, medical/charity, and unclassified.
You can set the default setting for your mileage and in most cases you’d want to set this to work – if a trip you take is not for work you can simply go to your trips section, find the trip in question and swipe to the left to change its status to one of the other classifications. It’s very straightforward and easy to make the changes.
The other two sections are pretty self-explanatory. In the transactions section you can add expenses you want to track such as restaurant bills and you can also add revenue to reflect sales you have made to track those as well.
It’s as simple as tapping on the plus button, choosing the type of transaction you want to track, and entering the basic information. You can even scan receipts to store them next to your expenses as well.
What really makes this app work is that you don’t have to do anything for the mileage calculations to work. You simply allow the app access to your GPS on your phone and every time you take a trip in the car for business or other reasons that trip is automatically tracked and stored within the app.
The only thing you have to do is to make sure the trip is saved in the right category as we’ve mentioned above. It’s probably one of the easiest mileage tracking apps I’ve ever encountered.
Pros
Cons
Everlance is probably the best free mileage and expense tracking app in the App Store. It’s easy to use, has a nice clean user interface, and it works exactly as advertised.
I love the fact that you don’t have to do anything to track your mileage other than allow the app access to the GPS function on your phone. This is a great app and definitely worth trying out.
