The Transit App
Price: Free
The Transit App by Samuel Vermette helps you get around the city on public transit giving you all the information you need on your iPad.
This app currently works in 36 cities across the U.S. and Canada such as New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. The app will quickly give you information such as the next departure time for each of the public transit routes near you. This is done in order of proximity to the stops.
While the free version doesn't offer you as much as the subscription-based one, it still offers plenty of great features. You'll find real-time schedules and itineraries on the three nearest routes to you, location offsetting which let you see transit routes at other locations, trip planning giving you the best option, and smart direction save so that your preferred direction is saved.
The paid version of the app gives you schedules on all the routes that are within a 1.5km radius of you, offline access to itineraries and schedules, unlimited access of the trip planner, city bundles that can be downloaded, and the ability to store favorite routes.
Many of the routes do use real-time schedule data.
The Transit App was updated on Feb. 1, 2013 and has 22 customer ratings with an average rating of four out of five stars. In this latest version there have been a number of bug and crash fixes as well as improvements made to accuracy when it comes to the real-time predictions.
As long as you’re in a city that subscribes to this service this can be a very handy app to have. I really liked that the data was real-time so I knew exactly what time to expect my bus.
