Children’s Bible app review: Bible books for kids of all ages

Introduction

Children’s Bible by Barcelona Multimedia is an app filled with books, textbooks, comics, and even movies for kids and teenagers, with the theme of Bible stories. 

What You Get

If you’re looking for an easy way to start bringing the Word of God into your home, but don’t know how aside from reading the Bible, then this app will help you out. It’s great in that it allows you to choose material for children, teenagers, or “all” content, so you can make sure that it is age-appropriate. The younger kids’ content is what I looked at most, given that my daughter is five, and it is filled with picture books, some comics for slightly older kids, and movies as well. The age ranges are 0-3, 4-6, and 7 and up. The comics and movies are for kids aged seven and up.

There are a few free titles here that you get with the app download, such as My Very First Bible (sample), Children’s Bible (a comic), a weekly Psalm, and a couple others. The rest range in price from $2.99 and up. 

 

What It's All About

I tried out the My Very First Bible. You can zoom to make the text bigger, which is nice because it’s kind of small on the iPhone. The illustrations are quite nice. There are no sound effects, narration, or other interactive components. The book itself gives a highlight of the major Bible stories: Creation, Noah and the Ark, Moses, Elijah, Daniel, Birth of Christ, stories of Jesus, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. The wording is very appropriate for kids up to three.

The app itself is easy to navigate and offers three tabs: Library (where your purchases go), Children (where all the downloadable material is), and News (where you’ll find news about the app, like specials on offer). There is also a Settings button where can restore or delete purchases, and an Info button where you can connect with the website, email, Twitter, or Facebook of the developers. You can also subscribe to the Children’s Bible Bulletin and view other apps on offer.

The only downside is that there aren’t more free titles. The books and textbooks might seem kind of pricey, but they are still less than what you would pay for print books or movies on DVD.

Final Verdict

I think this is a pretty decent children’s Bible stories app, and one I’ll probably keep. I plan on reading a couple of the younger stories to my daughter to see how they are received. Normally we read from a giant print book that is very uncomfortable to hold.
