I think this is a great idea for an app. You can simply start up the app, pick a charity, jump on the treadmill, and away you go! In our Charity Miles review, you will see just how simple this process is.
Although you’re not really going out of the way for a charitable cause, this is definitely worth having on your iPhone while you exercise to provide a needy cause with a little extra help.

Walk, Run, and Cycle for Charity
This award-winning app is an absolute must-have for anyone who exercises regularly or who is generally active throughout the day.
Best iphone and ipad apps
Charity Miles utilizes your device’s GPS to track the distance you’ve covered so that the developer’s corporate partners will make a donation to the charity of your choice.
You can even create your own profile which will display a history of your activities as well as the option to add your own team to compound the money you raise even further!
I love this app and especially enjoy the way it has been developed with an obvious no-nonsense attitude. The interface is very sparse and straightforward, but it still looks great.
If you want further information on each charity you can tap on the "i" in the top right-hand corner to read a brief bio and watch a video before deciding which charity you’d like to raise donations for.
From Autism Speaks and Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America to Habitat for Humanity and ASPCA, there is a wide range of non-profit organizations to choose from, so if you’re feeling both active and charitable, please be sure to download Charity Miles and take it for a spin next time you do some exercise.
Pros and Cons
Pros

- Add a team of people to your profile to raise even more money
- Easy-to-use interface
Cons
- No social media sharing
- No use to people who use stationary exercise equipment
Final Words
My main pet peeve with this app is that I use a treadmill for my morning cardio session and Charity Miles uses GPS so running on the spot doesn’t register as me having covered any distance!
If you exercise out on the road then this app is obviously ideal for you, and leaving it running in the background is a great way to rake in a few extra bucks for some worthy causes.
I would love to see more apps like this being developed in the future because not only does it encourage people to be more physically active, it also raises awareness of different charities and brings to the forefront of people’s minds just how many needy causes are out there and how easy it is to make a difference with very little effort.
