Destiny Defence: Angel or Devil: app review: a simple strategy game with an in-depth upgrade system
Introduction
Destiny Defence: Angel or Devil by Morisoft is a 2D strategy game with role playing elements. The concept is simple: on the left is your castle and on the right is the castle of the enemy. You build troops that will move towards the enemy’s castle while your enemy does the same. A hero floats above the battlefield who can cast different spells to heal your army or make them stronger. Five different types of units, each balanced out against each other, will be the key to victory. Your goal is to destroy the enemy’s castle before he destroys yours.

Simple Gameplay with a Lot of Depth
Destiny Defence: Angel or Devil looks very simple at first sight. Buy an army and slice yourself through the enemies towards their castle. Five different unit types that are effective against each other make up for the strategy. For example, the archer is very strong against the spear men, the spearmen is very strong against the infantry, and the infantry are very effective against mages. The game gets a bit more difficult when the game start mixing up enemy waves and adds in different hero characters that are a lot stronger then your average unit.

Upgrades For Your Units and Your Heroes
Throughout the game you will earn red crystals which can be used for upgrading your units and your hero, buying new powers for your hero, and even buying new units or champion units. As you play, the game will quickly get a lot harder, and you will need to replay levels to earn enough crystals to be able to beat the stronger-growing enemy. Ninety levels are available and you will unlock a new one as soon as you beat a previous one.
You can see this game is developed by a non-English speaking developer. A lot of the translations are poor and don’t really fit in the setting the game is trying to create. Mages for example use a magic stick.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Loads of free content
- Challenging but not impossible levels
- Upgrade system
Cons
- Really poorly translated
- You have to replay levels a lot to get enough crystals for unlocking more content
Conclusion
Destiny Defence: Angel or Devil is a very nice game. It’s not hard to play and each level will take you about five minutes to complete, making it ideal for a quick commute or a nice break in between work. A sequel has been released as well, which I might review one of these days. The graphics are nice but the music can get quite annoying. With two campaigns to choose from, this game offers a lot of content, which is very nice to see in a free game without ads.
I would recommend this game, which is designed for both iPad and iPhone, to any budding armchair general. On top of all of this, the app only weighs takes about 28 MB of storage space, which is really good for an app with this much content.
