Introduction
French - Lessons by Raja Mohammad Zishanullah is a very colorful iPhone French app that for once doesn’t try to get you to subscribe to a service, doesn’t have any ads, and gives you a lot of content totally free! There must be a catch somewhere with this French app, you would think?
The best iPhone apps for learning a foreign language
The catch is, even though it has a lot of content, this is one of those French language apps for iPad and iPhone users that will not teach you how to speak French, but it will get you started though!
Keep reading our French - Lessons app review to see if this is a top iPhone app for learning French.
Free Content
This app will get you started by teaching you the alphabets. That’s what they call it, making me think that the people who created this app aren’t very proficient in English. This will be the first issue with the app, as how will they teach you a language while they don’t master the students' main language?
The best iPad apps for translations
Not all of the actual text in some of the theory fits on the screen and falls off. After learning about the alphabet and vowels in particular, we go on to numbers. This is also where the quizzes start coming in. The quizzes are super easy and use exactly the same content as the lessons.
Other subject in this app are parts of speech (containing nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives), body parts, fruits and vegetables, and the 100-most used French words. All of this is supported by both written word and audio.
More Content?
After having mastered all the content in this app you will not speak French yet. The very last option in the menu is of course the “Learn more?” option.
The best Paris apps for iPhone
This menu item will lead you to a list of what else you can learn, and by pressing “Get It” right here, you will be guided to the App Store where you can buy the full app for only $1.99. This full app does promise you that you will speak fluent French in 30 days.
All in all, you get tons of free content, no ads, and you will not be pushed every minute of using this app to go and upgrade to pro.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- A lot of content for free
- Colorful menus
- Basic French
- Written and audio examples
- One of the more reliable beginners' French apps for iPad and iPhone
Cons
- The quizzes are very easy
- The English used isn’t very good
Conclusion
This app is ideal for anyone who wants to try and learn French. It certainly covers all the basics, and doesn’t force you to upgrade this or buy that. The theory behind the language is explained very well in text, while pronunciation is being explained accompanied with audio examples.
The app is only 19 MB big and is compatible with both iPhone and iPad, allowing you to take your lessons with you anywhere.
You won’t end up speaking fluent French, but this app will certainly teach you the basics. I fully recommend this app for all budding French speakers or as a refreshing course for people who already do.
