Doodle Fill app review: color the shapes without connecting the same colors to each other!

Reviews

Introduction

Doodle Fill by DreaminGame Inc. is easily confused with the immensely popular Doodle Fit. The games are vastly different, but it’s clear why the developer of this game has chosen its name to be so similar to the popular game and its sequel.

This game starts out with some really easy tasks that even the youngest of kids can complete, but when you progress in the game you will notice the difficulty ramping up quickly and soon you will be surprised how difficult an easy concept can turn out.

This app is no longer in the App Store. But, you can check out some great alternatives here The best iPad apps for memory games.

Puzzle Design and Game Mechanics

The concept is simple: use a set amount of colors to fill different shapes on your screen. The same color cannot touch itself through one of the preordained borders.

This sounds really easy, but you will soon find that the game becomes a real brain teaser. Each level adds more shapes to be filled, and touching more and more other shapes.

Before you know it you will find yourself making small mistakes, and because the game is time-based, you will find yourself restarting levels to get the optimal score every level.

Ads, Progression, and In-App Purchases

After every few levels, an ad will show up, which is easily tapped away by closing it down. As of now, the game holds 100 levels, but the developer promises that it will add more soon. The game will always show you when you have made a mistake, so the only thing you need to do is solve it.

I have been playing for quite a while and have made a fair few mistakes, but it has never become clear to me what the coins in the game are actually used for.

These coins are available as an in-app purchase, starting at $0.99 per 60 coins and ramping up in price accordingly after that. You would think the developer would make clear what the in game currency is used for, but I can’t find this anywhere. You don’t earn more coins by playing.

Conclusion

Doodle Fill is a clever game for all ages, perfect to play by yourself or with one of your children. The game starts out easy, but you will find the difficulty ramping up rather soon.

The game has an in-app currency, but it is never made clear what it is used for. You start with 20 coins, but never make more or spend any.

The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is great for a quick gaming session. I can suggest this app for people of all ages and it’s a great game to play together with anyone.
