HeyHey Pix app review: a photo editor for kids

Reviews

Introduction

HeyHey Pix by HeyHey Apps is a photo camera and editing app that is specifically designed for children. Because school is starting again, the developer has been so kind to make this photo transformation app free for a week. Anyone who doesn’t go to school anymore, you can easily move along, as this app is not for you. Children between the ages of three and 11 will  love this app, and will have a ball designing and decorating their own photos.

Great Design and Very Child-Friendly

HeyHey Pix is extremely well-designed. Everything on the screen is really colorful and your kid will instantly know what to do. First you can select or take a photo, or choose a pre-designed cheerful template, then the fun can start! Your children will be able to add hundreds of fun different objects to the photo of their choosing. Many of these objects, which are all collected in the two sidebars on the edge of the screen, have sound effects which will play when the item is placed on the photo. There are ten different object categories, some of which are very clearly defined, while others seem like a mish mash of all kinds of child-friendly objects.

Finishing up a Photo and Sharing it

When your kid is happy with the decorations on the photo, just click the button to go to the next screen. I always have a problem with apps designed for kids that have sharing options available in the normal menus. This will only end up in either a lot of photos on one of the parent’s wall or Twitter feed, or with your young children wanting to go on these social networks. This is why I suggest parents to always use this app together with their kids, since Facebook, Twitter, and email sharing are straight away available after creating a photo.

You can also export it to other programs, or save it to the Camera Roll (which is the only option that should be available, in my humble opinion). As there are no settings in the app, there is no way to set any preferences to hide these options.

Conclusion

All in all, I think HeyHey Pix is a fantastic iPhone photo editor for kids. The app is well-designed and really easy to use. I do recommend a parent stays with the kids while they are using this app, as it is made way too easy to post photos on social networks. Your kids can make their own pictures, or play around with different fun templates that are supplied from within the app. The app is designed for both iPad and iPhone. Any parent should get this app before the week is over, as it’s only available free until Sunday!
