WWL Radio app review: listen to all the top stories in New Orleans and the Gulf South

Reviews

Introduction

Residents of the Gulf South and in particular New Orleans have an app dedicated to providing all the latest news in their region, as well as world news, with the WWL Radio app. You'll still be able to view headlines from around the world but there is also a focus on regional news so the stories that affect you most are covered.

Quick and Easy Access

The focus on this app is entirely on being able to provide users with the information they want quickly and easily. Here you can find sports news, talk, and news from around the world. Not only can you read the news but you can listen to it. What's great is that you can leave the news playing in the background while you do other things. If you’d rather not listen to the news while you browse, just turn the live sound off.

Of course the coverage from this app is directly from FM 105.3/AM 870.

When it comes to the way the news is laid out you can browse through all the categories/departments or you can search for a particular item using the search bar. Get the details on your favorite sports teams (the Saints and LSU), watch videos, view photos, weather, read the blogs, and take part in polls. The app is meant to be informative and engaging. Breaking news is covered here with up-to-the-minute details.

If you come across a story that leaves a mark you can share it by email, Twitter, Facebook, and more. You can also bookmark stories so you can come back to them whenever you like.

Hitting the Mark

The user interface tries to the hit the mark but unfortunately it falls off course. The design feels dated and stale, not how you want a news app to feel. While it’s got good features like providing you with news items that affect your region, the problem is that the app doesn’t feel engaging enough to keep returning. As well I find the stories slow to load and just navigating through the app is tedious. I want to be able to quickly view and read stories so I can get on with other parts of my day and this app just didn’t feel like it could keep up with me.

Final Thoughts

I love the idea that the WWL Radio app provides you with the news with an emphasis on regional stories, but I just felt like the developer could have done so much more with this app. I can’t imagine coming back to this as my go-to source when it comes to New Orleans and the Gulf south. Unfortunately this one didn’t keep my attention.
