NASA Television app review: the final frontier

Introduction

Space...the final frontier. Most people are very interested in what happens out there as in our day and age this is the only great unknown. NASA has developed an app that allows you to watch NASA Television at all times, with live shows, on-demand shows that have been aired already, a full schedule of what will be aired on NASA Television and on other channels, and a link to the NASA app. What keeps me wondering is why other TV stations don’t create an app like this, as I would love to be able to watch shows everywhere I am in the world.

NASA - Always a Few Steps Ahead in Technology

I take my hat off for NASA, as once again it's made a breakthrough in technology. This time it’s not space-related, but entertainment-related. This app allows you to watch NASA Television at any given time, wherever you are in the world! Some similar apps that offer on-demand television don’t allow you to watch anything live, which is something that can be easily done using today’s streaming technology, and only offer half of their programming for on-demand viewing!

NASA, however, is a huge jump ahead of everyone else here. No costs are involved, and the programs are interesting, full of space facts, and very educational. Some of the features even involve live interviews with actual astronauts in space!

 

Programming Information

NASA doesn’t stop here. As well as listing the programming that NASA Television has to offer, it also doesn’t shy away from listing all other programming information on other channels in the United States. These shows are obviously very limited about a single subject, and are mainly aired on the Science or History channels, but this is not all. NASA also lists shows on local channels, which is something I would never see any television app do.

All in all, NASA is setting a fantastic example for any other institution that wants its name out there and wants to grow its fan base as well as educate the masses.

Conclusion

It’s fair to say I have been blown away by the NASA Television app. Not only does it do a fantastic job educating any viewers about space, it also sets a bar for any other institution or television broadcaster extremely high. You can watch the live shows that are currently on-going or simply watch any show that has been aired in the past. On top of that, the app also has a full programming listing as well as any NASA-related TV shows on other channels, right here within the app! The app is compatible with both iPad and iPhone and is just over 6 MB in size.
