Snowtam app review: essential for pilots 2021
Introduction
Snowtam is a great pilots app for iPhone and iPad that should provide just about everything a pilot might need when frequently flying in severely cold weather conditions, featuring SNOWTAM and MOTNE decoders, airport codes, and lots more.
The best iPhone apps for pilots
Although the vast majority of the terminology used in this app for pilots is lost on me, I can very easily see the amount of professionalism and expertise that has gone into its development, so I would definitely suggest considering it if you are a cold weather pilot.

SNOWTAM and MOTNE Decoders
What we have here is a powerful pilot’s companion app for iOS which provides essential information via SNOWTAM and MOTNE decoders, as well as a vast database of more than 12,000 ICAO airport codes with elevation data.
Best iphone and ipad apps
The decoders themselves seem rather extensive, with the SNOWTAM decoder covering the 16 fields provided in a Snow Notification Report, and the MOTNE decoder providing runway conditions with METARs.
Help Section Included
The interface for the MOTNE decoder in Snowtam is designed as a dial so that you won’t have to worry about inadvertently inputting invalid codes. You can also view cold temperature corrections which are based on Transport Canada’s Altitude Correction Chart for the utmost accuracy.
If you’re even one-tenth as confused by the nomenclature as I am then you’ll be pleased to know that Snowtam also includes an extensive Help section to get you up to speed with the various features; if you’re anything like me then you’ll definitely be glad it’s there!

This app seems very easy to use while at the same time not skimping on essential functionality, so I would very much like to recommend downloading it onto your iPhone and iPad before your next take-off.
