Remind: Safe Classroom Communication is an iPad and iPhone reminder app designed specifically for teachers to communicate with their elementary school students and parents. It's a safe, secure, and private reminder app that works just like a Twitter feed after setting up the account and approving specific members.
The best iPhone apps for learning Math 2021This remind me app has become a hit with teachers and parents alike. Remind: Safe Classroom Communication uses an interface much like twitter, with a subscribe system that requires direct add. The teacher creates a class, and then chooses if it is open or locked. You can add students, parents, and other teachers to the class board by email or number directly through your contacts, in class by sharing your unique @handle, or by sharing a link through an email list.
The best social networking apps for iPhone and iPadIf you choose to share in class, students can download and search for your unique @handle, text your @handle to a provided phone number, or email to the address provided to subscribe. It really is as simple as providing your students the info in class, having them subscribe, and watching their names pop up in the subscribers list.
What makes this so secure is that you cannot subscribe without the @handle or your teacher’s email. The app requires registering, however, this seems to be a really great idea.
Remind: Safe Classroom Communication does have limitations. For example, while you can provide a scheduled event, you cannot post the whole class calendar in an editable format. You could however post an image of the calendar, which means that you can snap photos of homework assignments to share with students and parents.
Best iphone and ipad appsWhat I like is honestly that this is so simple. It can be difficult to keep up with a class blog, and sometimes Facebook is too open for children’s privacy. This app keeps the classroom information private within the app, and sends email reminders to parents, or if you are using it for older students in high school, college, or university, then to the student his or herself.
Pros
Cons
Remind: Safe Classroom Communication is an iPad and iPhone app that allows teachers to keep in contact with their students in a safe and secure app. You must have the teacher’s @handle to subscribe, and the teacher must approve the request to the locked classroom prior to any students or parents being able to view the board.
I think this is a great idea, as I had previously been using a Twitter account, but could not share field trips for safety reasons. I would recommend teachers try this out and see how it works for them. It is less work than a class blog, but still more work than a monthly newsletter.
